Woman’s Voting Rights Stripped

Filed under: News, Politics — lmwalker @ 2:19 pm

If you are a woman who doesn’t support Barack Obama, you are not permitted to represent the Democratic Party:

The Wisconsin Democratic Party has stripped a woman of her position as delegate to the Democratic National Convention . . .

Illinois Senator Barack Obama is in line to get the party’s nomination, but Bartoshevich supports Hillary Clinton . . .

Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Joe Wineke says, “It actually strengthened what we were doing here, I mean the thunderous vote on that from the delegation showed me that virtually everybody here has one mission, and that is to elect Barack Obama president.”

For Democrats, women have the right to choose . . . unless it’s a choice with which they happen to disagree.

  1. I think you meant to say “If you’re a woman who has publicly said that she’s going to vote Republican, you are not permitted to represent the Democratic Party.”

Well. . .um, no shit, Sherlock.

  2. Her delegate vote is for Hillary Clinton. The fact that her personal election vote is for John McCain does not disqualify her as a Democrat.

As a registered Republican, I am not required to vote a straight Republican ticket. And I don’t. I guess it’s different for Democrats: no dissenting viewpoints permitted.

  3. She absolutely entitled to vote Republican if she wants to. However, if you’re elected as a *delegate* to the National Convention, yes, you’re expected to support the party.

  4. I agree with Howard. This is a process conducted by a private political party, the Democratic Party, who can choose to associate with whomever it wishes.

She can vote for McCain in the general election. After this episode, I’m sure that she will follow through with that threat!
