In Limbo on Limbo

Filed under: News — lmwalker @ 4:49 pm

I guess Reuters doesn’t have any Catholics on staff:

According to Italian media reports on Tuesday, an international theological commission will advise Pope Benedict to eliminate the teaching about limbo from the Catholic catechism.

There’s just one tiny problem: the Catechism of the Catholic Church has not a single solitary mention of limbo. Catholics are free to accept or reject the theological speculation of limbo as reason and conscience dictate. It’s not an official teaching and therefore can not be “eliminated” from a catechism where it doesn’t exist.

  1. I saw this headline the other day as well and told my co-worker the very same thing you wrote. That limbo is not in the catechism. I then rated the article a big flop.

  3. Limbo? like that place Blackbeard is stuck in in “Blackbeard’s ghost”?…sorry, couldn’t help myself. But don’t Catholics have a place LIKE limbo?
