Children of the Corn

Filed under: Rambles — lmwalker @ 6:51 pm

I went to the World’s Largest Corn Maze yesterday and had a blast. I was accompanied by Nell Andrezjewski, Victoria Bolger, Marie Boharik, Kevin Butler, Wenchin Chang, Dave Hahn, Andrew Mills, Chris O’Keefe, Andrew Pavlis, Dave Rumoro, Tim Schwarzenberger, Anne Walker and Laine Wing.

The weather was beautiful and the corn rows mostly intact. However, I was more than somewhat baffled by the fact that only four of the individuals that paid the $8.50 admission fee found it desirable to complete the maze. The rest lost interest after 40 minutes and waited in the parking lot.

Considering that it took 80 minutes to drive to the corn maze and considering that the prize for completing the maze is a quite lovely (and much sought-after) “Certificate of Completion,” I am puzzled as to why most of the group opted to spend the gas and admission money.

My co-worker Tim Stabrawa coined this extravagant behavior “lame-itude.” I just call it . . . curious.

  1. Had I realized there was some sort of challenge, and some sort of prize, I may have been more apt to complete the corn maze in a sufficient manner that would befit the ‘certificate’ of corniness that you received, Laura; however, I had just as good of a time trying to get to certain points in the maze with everyone following me blindly 😀

Although, I am not sure the $8.50 admission fee was worth it…afterall, it was just a bad farmer that created the first cornmaze to begin with.

  2. The world’s largest corn maze? I’m missing something. Is it in Idaho or something?

  3. I remember getting 5 cent candy when I completed the corn thingy. I was also able to keep my map that had a bunch of paper cut designs on it to show where I was.
