Get Thee to a Nursery

It is unacceptable to be a single woman in some New York settings:

The Rivington Playground on Manhattan’s East Side has a small sign at the entrance that says adults are prohibited unless they are accompanied by a child. Forty-seven-year-old Sandra Catena says she didn’t see the sign when she sat down to wait for an arts festival to start. Two New York City police officers asked her if she was with a child. When she said no, they gave her a ticket that could bring a one thousand dollar fine and 90 days in jail.

The city parks department says the rule is designed to keep pedophiles out of city parks, but a parks spokesman told the Daily News that the department hoped police would use some common sense when enforcing the rule.

  1. HA!

…single woman in some New York…

Shouldn’t that read childless? Its ridiculous. This is just more proof that liberals, and laws, are getting out of hand. When parents can’t take responsibility to watch their children at the playground…and the gov’ment has to enact something like this….its just a very sad age we live in, whilst our liberties are whittled away to nothing.

Where’s the ACLU in all of this?! How come I don’t see protests from Jesse Jackson?! Oh wait, there’s no money to be made……

The worst part of all of this is..

The city parks department says the rule is designed to keep pedophiles out of city parks, but…common sense when enforcing the rule….ticketing a woman in the park in the middle of the day is not the way you want to enforce the rule.

Common sense when enforcing the rule?! So, is this secret code that if it were a man they should ticket him?! Or just priests at night?! This from a city that did, and probably still does, nothing about the drug problem in some of the parks at night.

Who the hell is the arbiter to determine who can and cannot be in a park?! Don’t pedophiles have the same rights as every other American?! Aren’t we innocent until PROVEN guilty?! Notice that this law/ordinance/’rule’ is based on FEAR of something bad happening, rather than something bad actually happening. Its like arresting folks who wear ski masks because you think that everyone who wears a ski mask, unless at a ski resort, is a bank robber.

Of course, the purpose behind this is to create a paper trail for anyone who gets ticketed so that in the future they can say ‘see, we have evidence that this guy likes to sit at park benches even though he is childless…this is proof he’s a pedophile’.

What about the pedophiles who have children and use those park opportunities to mark other children? Its not like pedophiles don’t have children.

Don’t get me wrong…I’m all for locking up pedophiles and preventing them from sexually abusing children; however, I do think that this is just complete and utter nonsense to think that an adult can’t sit on a bench in a city without having to worry about getting a fine for being childless. If I were this woman, I’d sue the city of NY for discriminating against a childless person. I bet she’d win too.

I’m glad I don’t live in NY. Seems like the rights of businesses and individuals are being stripped faster than you can say New York Minute.
