Some Good News

A goodly number of people escaped the wrath of Hurricane Katrina: 75-80% of a population of 485,000.

Approximately 182,000 people are housed in shelters, which means that more than 182,000 are housed in (presumably) more comfortable conditions.

At least 32,000 people were explicitly rescued. That’s amazing!

While it opens the possibility of much abuse, the government is offering the victims $2000 debit cards to get back on their feet.

At least one Hollywood director is planning to film his upcoming movie in New Orleans in a bid to help the local economy recover.
