  2. You should come work for my company. We do stuff like this all the time. Just have to fly it under the proverbial management radar. But of course, that’s because we were all hackers at one point. Its getting harder and harder to go around big corporate policies here in Big Blue land.

Looks like processor clustering. We’re doing this with some of our customers. We also get some giganto server, dice it up into pieces, and then share the computing power among nodes. Of course, its all hush hush and top secret, so that’s about all I can say about that. 😉

The big thing is running hundreds of Linux servers on Mainframes now-a-days. Oh, and replacing useful servers w/ appliances, which, IMHO, kills innovation.

Clustering is probably more interesting to programmers than System Administrators. Although, I know my uncle’s been hunting aliens for years w/ clustered linux servers at a *ahem* government lab…he supposedly has one of the biggest seti@home setups (at work). Of course, I won’t believe any of it until he finds aliens 😉 hehe

I’d go just to go back to UofI for a couple of days and be on campus. I work with a guy down in Champaign and probably owe him enough to go out drinking with him and a few other friends who never left…is Murphy’s still around? I met my first love, Guinness, there. 🙂
