Beach-wear No More

Filed under: Rambles — lmwalker @ 3:51 pm

And flip-flops cause a furor too:

Before visiting the White House, Kate Darmody carefully planned her outfit. She bought a sundress from Ann Taylor. She put on a strand of white pearls.

And then she slipped on flip-flops to meet the president . . .

Twenty- and thirtysomethings will pair flip-flops with everything from shorts to cocktail dresses, wearing them at work and at clubs, for a stroll down Main Street or even down the wedding aisle. For their moms, the shoes – best known for the flapping noise they make – are meant for places like the beach.

One of the hottest trends this summer, flip-flops are no longer a dime-store purchase, with some costing several hundred dollars. They come flat and with wedge heels. They have rhinestones and sequins and flowers.

Anne is big into flip-flops. I’ve never really found them all that comfortable.

  1. Of course I have to comment….

Apparently there’s lots of suckers still being born every minute. I think I’m gonna go make me some flip-flops, put some baubbles on ’em, and sell ’em for a hefty profit. Anyone interested in investing on a flip-flop shop (all done w/ Chinese laborers, of course)?

You can still find “shower shoes” for under $3.00. You just have to be willing to be seen in public or private without sequins, rhinestones or flowers……..

  4. Hey, there’s nothin’ wrong with any of that, as long as its tasteful. But then, who has taste anymore?

  5. Tasteful flip flops *without* rhinestones? As in, the Wal-Mart brand? My dear, don’t talk nonsense.

  6. haha…no no, I meant if it *has* rhinestones or other baubles, then its ok as long as its tasteful. So do they still make that flip-flop noise when you walk? Or has the flip-flop industry improved the obnoxiousness of their product? They always reminded me of the klip-klop noise horses make….

Yes, I just compared people who wear flip-flops to horses…muhahahahaha… Can you count with those shoes? Do they come with a sugar cube?
