Shh! Someone Might Hear the French!

In addition to their over-regulation of vitamins and Internet, the EU also wants to restrict loud noises:

The European Commission said it was initiating legal action against 11 states which had failed to incorporate the rules into national noise pollution legislation, which should have been done by July 2004.

The states are Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal and Britain.

“The EU’s objective is to substantially reduce the number of people in Europe affected by noise by 2012,” Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas said in a statement.

Europeans are welcome to protest . . . as long as they do it quietly.

  1. How classically micromanagerial of the EU brass. This still doesn’t top my favorite piece of EU constitution dipshitery:

    Article III-5a (new)
In formulating and implementing the Union’s agriculture, fisheries, transport, internal market, research and technological development and space policies, the Union and the Member States shall pay full regard to the welfare requirements of animals, as sentient beings, while respecting the legislative or administrative provisions and customs of Member States relating in particular to religious rites, cultural traditions and regional heritage.

How incredibly vague yet potentially stifling is that? Couldn’t this stop almost all non-plant agriculture in its tracks?

I hope the European Union collapses under it’s own weight. Not the economic union mind you, just the governmental one. I say this not because I wish ill on the people of Europe but because I dearly love them and don’t want to see them subjected to such crippling and stupid government.
